Stage 2 ION PCC 4b: March 2019

In June 2018, Region of Waterloo Council endorsed a Preferred Route for the Stage 2 ION project, subject to further evaluation of the portion of the route between Shantz Hill Road and Eagle Street North at William Street. The Region has further considered local route and station location options between Hamilton Street and the Eagle Street Canadian Pacific Rail crossing.

The evaluated refinements will be presented to the public at an upcoming Public Consultation Centre, along with the evaluation results, and the Project Team Preferred Refinement based on these results.

Stage 2 ION PCC 4: May 2018

PCC 3 introduced a number of additional route alternatives to the public. Based on public input the Region has evaluated localized route alternatives and refinements. The evaluated alternative routes will be presented to the public at an upcoming Public Consultation Centre, along with the evaluation results, and the Project Team Preliminary Proposed Route through the study area based on these results.

Stage 2 ION PCC 3: November 2017 - January 2018

At the last public consultation centre, PCC 2, a preliminary preferred route was presented for public feedback. The Region received many comments from the public, including a number of suggested alternative routes during and after PCC No. 2. The Region will be further considering localized route alternatives and refinements to the preliminary preferred route.

Stage 2 ION PCC 2: February - March 2017

The Region of Waterloo is continuing public consultation on Stage 2 ION, light rail transit (LRT) from Kitchener to Cambridge. More than 350 residents attended three public consultation centes  to provide feedback on the preliminary preferred route. Public engagement will continue this fall with a third PCC. Public consultation documents for Stage 2 ION are available below.

Stage 2 ION PCC 1: November 2015

Public consultation centres for Stage 2 ION were held in November 2015. Stage 2 will see the ION bus service between Kitchener and Cambridge replaced by light rail transit (LRT), creating a continuous LRT network across the region's three urban centres. More than 100 community members took part in the two consultation centres providing their input on the alternative routes for Stage 2 ION.
