ION vehicle at OMSF

Testing has begun on the test tracks. On December 8, a freight locomotive was driven along the ION testing route, just north of the Erb & Caroline intersection to the Northfield station. Dynamic, or powered, testing began on December 18 with vehicle number 504 at the OMSF on Dutton Drive.
As part of the testing and commissioning process, freight-track and dynamic testing will be seen along the ION test track before moving further along the ION route.
Please do not stop or park on the tracks, and remember overhead wires are live.

Fairway Station

Station Feature - Fairway

Fairway is a key connection point on the ION route, linking LRT to Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) in Cambridge. The station drops you off at one of Waterloo Region's largest shopping centres, ensuring a convenient connection for mall shoppers and employees.
Fairway is located near the Hudson Bay parking lot and is steps away from GRT's Fairway Park terminal. It is in walking distance to many more shops and restaurants in a well-established Kitchener neighbourhood.

About ION

ION, the Region of Waterloo's rapid transit service, which was approved by Council in June 2011, is a visionary plan that will help shape our community for the future by brining LRT to the region in two stages.

Stage 1 includes a 19 kilometre LRT route from the Conestoga Mall transit terminal in Waterloo to the Fairview Park Mall transit terminal in Kitchener. Service is set to launch in 2018.

Stage 1 also features a 17 kilometre route of BRT from Ainslie Street transit terminal in Cambridge to the Fairview Park Mall transit terminal in Kitchener. ION BRT service began operating in September 2015.

Stage 2 ION will see the Region replace the BRT line with LRT, creating a seamless LRT route across the community's three urban centres.
